  • Wellington-based
  • Lead the Perl-to-Go migration and new tokenisation work
  • Senior Go/Postgres engineer, room to grow beyond the title
About the Company:
Our client is a small Fintech in a niche market that spans the globe. They build the clearing, settlement, risk and trading systems that exchanges and clearing houses rely on to run live markets, competing directly against vendors many times their size. Their software runs live market operations across Europe, Asia and the Pacific, and they're expanding internationally.

About the Role:
You'll join a small engineering team reporting directly to the CTO, taking real ownership of the platform's core: a daemon-based settlement and transaction engine, and the interfaces that connect clients to markets. There's an active migration of that engine from Perl to Go underway, alongside newer work in tokenisation and digital-asset settlement, and bringing AI into how the team builds and operates.

You'll work mostly with Go, PHP, Postgres and Linux, on AWS and client-hosted environments, with some legacy Perl in the mix. As a Senior, you'll also mentor junior engineers and help recover knowledge that currently lives mostly in the code and in a few people's heads.

This isn't a role for someone who sees an older codebase and writes it off as outdated; it's for someone who looks at it and asks, "Okay, what's the plan? How do we make this better?" There's genuine scope to grow well beyond the title here, though staying a strong senior IC is just as welcome.

Skills Required:
  • Strong back-end engineering in Go, or a comparable language you can get productive in fast
  • Comfortable working in a mixed codebase, including legacy Perl
  • Solid PostgreSQL, Linux and AWS
  • Sound, secure engineering judgement around production systems
This is not an exhaustive list, nor do you need every skill; they'll teach the stack and the market domain to the right person. Capital markets background, blockchain/tokenisation experience, or practical use of AI tools in regulated engineering settings would all be a bonus.

About You:
If you do your best work in a small team, pick up new domains quickly and genuinely enjoy it, stay clear-headed when production is under pressure, and are curious about markets and where settlement is heading, we'd love to hear from you.

This role is based in Wellington and is in-office, at this team size, being in the room is part of how the work gets done. Relocation support is available for the right person.
